What to pack for a weekend on the river

by Camping Pont Blanc on Aug 12, 2026
A raft heading downriver between forested banks

We hand out a lot of spare sunscreen. Here's what to bring so you don't need ours.

Bring these

  • Water shoes that stay on. Not flip-flops. The riverbed has rocks and flip-flops end up floating downstream without you.
  • A dry bag or waterproof pouch. Your phone will get wet. Everything on the river gets wet.
  • More water than you think. Floating in the sun dehydrates people faster than they expect.
  • A hat with a brim and sunscreen you've actually tested. There's no shade in the middle of the river.
  • A full change of clothes left back at your site, including shoes.
  • A towel per person. Two if you're staying more than one night. Wet towels don't dry overnight in humid weather.
  • Warm layers for the evening. It drops more than people expect once the sun is off the water.

Leave these

  • Glass. Not on the water, not on the beach.
  • Valuables. Bring what you'd be relaxed about dropping in a river.
  • Your own life jackets. We provide them with every rental, fitted properly.
  • Firewood from home. [Confirm your policy: most Quebec sites ask that firewood is bought locally to avoid moving invasive pests.]

You don't need to bring

Tubes, rafts, kayaks or paddleboards are all available on site and reservable ahead of time. If you're in a glamping tent, beds and linens are already there.
