Waterfront or woods: how to choose your site

Every season the same six sites go first. Three glamping tents and three tent campsites sit directly on the riverbank, and people book them a year out. If you've ever wondered whether they're worth the premium, here's an honest answer.

What waterfront actually gets you

You wake up to the river. That's the whole pitch, and it's a better one than it sounds. The water is the reason you came, and being twenty steps from it changes how the weekend runs. You float before breakfast. You put the tubes in without loading a car. Kids drift between the water and the fire ring all afternoon without anyone supervising a walk.

It's also quieter. The waterfront pitches sit at the edge of the grounds rather than in the middle of them.

What the wooded sites get you

Shade, mostly. And in July that's not nothing. The wooded glamping tents stay noticeably cooler through the afternoon, and if you're the kind of camper who wants to nap after lunch rather than bake, that matters more than a view.

They're also closer to the pavilion and the washrooms, which is worth thinking about if you're camping with small children or anyone who'd rather not walk far at night.

So which one?

Book waterfront if the river is the point of the trip and you're coming for two nights or fewer. You'll spend the whole time on the water anyway.

Book wooded if you're staying longer, camping in high summer, or bringing a group that'll want the pavilion. You're a two-minute walk from the same river either way.
