Five things to do when it rains

par Camping Pont Blanc sur Aug 12, 2026
Two guests throwing axes in the covered range

People cancel camping trips over a rain forecast and then regret it, because a wet weekend at a campground is a genuinely different, and often better, kind of weekend. Here's what to do with one.

1. Throw axes

The range is under cover. Rain has no effect on it whatsoever, and there's something specifically satisfying about a covered wooden building, the sound of rain on the roof, and an axe hitting a target.

2. Go on the river anyway

You are, at the most, about to get wet. Warm summer rain on the river is one of the better experiences here and the water is almost always emptier. [Confirm any conditions under which you don't run: lightning, high water.]

3. Take over the pavilion

It's covered, it has long tables, and it's where everyone ends up when the weather turns. Cards, long lunches, and other people's kids making friends with yours.

4. Book a glamping tent instead of a pitch

If the forecast turns before you leave home and you're not committed to canvas, a furnished tent with a real bed and a covered deck changes a wet weekend entirely. [Subject to availability and your change policy.]

5. Sit by the fire

Every site has a fire ring, and a fire in light rain under trees is the whole reason people camp. Bring a tarp and you've got a dry seat for the evening.

The one time to reconsider

Sustained heavy rain and high water is different from a passing shower. River conditions change and we may pull activities. [Confirm how guests are notified and what happens to their booking.] If in doubt, call us on the day.
